I am having a few issues with memory on my 9.2.0.8 system, due to the memory limit, and i have been told that there is an Oracle version 9.3 'Itanium' that enables you to assign more memory for Oracle. I cannot find any information about this product, has anyone heard of it/installed it? Any information greatfully received.

Please note that Oracle is available for following Intel platforms
(a) Oracle for X86 32 bit : for intel 32 bit processors i.e. Pentium or 32bit Xeon.
(b) Oracle for X86 64 bit : for Xeon 64 bit [EMT64] processors. Please note Xeon EMT64 processors supports both 32 bit & 64 modes. Which mode will be used is dependant upon installed OS. You can install both 32bit & 64 bit OS on EMT64.
(c) Oracle for IA64 : for Itanium processors{IA64}. Please note Itanium processors are true 64 bit processors and do not have any other backward compatible 32 bit mode like EMT64. The instruction set for Itanium is independent/incompatible from X86. The OS & program written for Itanium will not work on X86 and vice-versa.
Note :
1. AMD have X86 compatible 64bit & 32 processors but no IA64 compatible processors. If using AMD servers with 32bit or 64 bit OS then use corresponding X86 versions of oracle.
2. ALL 64 bit processors [ intel Xeon 64bit(EMT64) or IA64 or AMD 64]offers a 64 bit address & data bus and technically very high maximum memory limitations. But max memory supported will depend upon memory controller in your server, so check your server documentation.
3. Xeon 64bit(EMT64) when working in 64 bit mode with a 64 bit os is not as efficient as IA64[Itanium] because EMT64 is an additional mode added to X86 32bit.
4. If you want true 64 bit performance on Intel platform than go for IA64(Itanium). Your Oracle performance & SGA will scale to any higher amount of RAM you have invested. But remember Itanium server have a higher cost to be paid as compared to Xeon 64(EMT64)or AMD 64.
5. While demanding from Metalink or purchasing from Oracle please specify your platform & OS
i.e. Oracle Database 10gR2 64bit for windows 2003 on Intel Itanium (IA64) platform.
or Oracle Database 10gR2 for Linux 64bit on Intel Itanium
(IA64) platform.
